Designed the web and mobile apps for a lettings and renting platform that connects landlords and tenants directly, from early concepts through to final engineering hand-off.
Metric: Web, iOS & Android, end to end
Role: UX and UI Designer
Duration: 2018 to 2019
Only designer, alongside engineering and third parties
Letify set out to change how the lettings industry works by cutting out the hassle of high-street agents, connecting landlords and tenants directly through one transparent platform.
Landlords needed to list properties, set availability and get verified; tenants needed to search, rent and raise a fault from anywhere in a few clicks. Both sides needed tools that make their lives easier.
- The brief was a simple yet comprehensive platform serving both landlords and tenants.
- Web and mobile apps (iOS and Android) covering the journey end to end.
- Third-party services connected via APIs, both essentials (gas certificates, inventory) and on-demand (fault fixes, furniture).
- Transparency across the whole journey was the core promise.
As the only designer I worked from the brief and stakeholder input, translating concepts directly into flows and designs while balancing the needs of both user groups with technical feasibility.
- Landlords and tenants have very different jobs to be done on the same platform.
- Third-party services had to feel native to the experience, not bolted on.
- The designs had to communicate clearly across a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Design guidelines and standards were needed to keep the product coherent as it grew.
Translated concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes across a wide range of devices, and established and promoted design guidelines, best practices and standards along the way.
The end-to-end design of the web and mobile dashboard applications for both sides of the platform, executed through every visual-design stage from concept to engineering hand-off. I also designed and coded the letify.com landing page in HTML, CSS and JS.
- User flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes delivered across web, iOS and Android.
- Design guidelines, best practices and standards established and promoted.
- Every visual-design stage executed from concept to final hand-off.
- The letify.com landing page designed and coded by hand.
- A lettings platform designed end to end for both landlords and tenants.
- More designs, components and the full design system available on request.
As the only designer I was involved in every part of the design workflow, a genuine learning experience in working at a start-up from scratch and balancing the needs of stakeholders and users while keeping technical feasibility in view.
With more resource I would have run structured usability testing alongside the build rather than relying on stakeholder feedback loops.
